Fiber Optic Acoustic Sensing to Understand and Affect the Rhythm of the Cities: Proof-of-Concept to Create Data-Driven Urban Mobility Models

In the framework of massive sensing and smart sustainable cities, this work presents an urban distributed acoustic testbed in vicinity School Technology Telecommunication Engineering University Granada, Spain. After positioning technology state art similar existing approaches, results monitoring experiment are described. Details scenario, basic types events automatically distinguishable, initial noise removal actions frequency signal complexity analysis provided. The experiment, used as a proof-of-concept, shows enormous potential to generate data-driven mobility models. order support fact, examples preliminary density traffic average speed calculation for buses, cars pedestrians testbed’s neighborhood exposed, together with accidental presence local earthquake. Challenges, benefits future research directions pointed out.
